Richard Merkin of Heritage Provider Network Elected to Caltech Board of Trustees
PASADENA, Calif.--Richard Merkin, M.D., founder and chief executive officer of Heritage Provider Network, has been elected to the California Institute of Technology Board of Trustees. The announcement was made today by Caltech president Jean-Lou Chameau.
Merkin has more than 30 years of experience developing clinically focused networks to bring efficient and quality-driven health care systems to the community. Beginning in 1979 and continuing to the present, his leadership has inspired the formation of over 25 medical group models and independent practice association structures in California and New York.
Merkin serves on the board of FasterCures, which examines the medical research process in an effort to accelerate the finding of treatments and cures for diseases. In 2003, Merkin founded the Heritage Medical Research Institute, which conducts medical research emphasizing health-care quality and outcomes.
A strong advocate for education, Merkin is on the boards of the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools, Sierra Nevada College, and United Friends of the Children. He is the founder of the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, and is on the board of overseers of the Los Angeles Music Center.
