Caltech Elects New Member to Board of Trustees
PASADENA, Calif.—Business leader Peggy Cherng has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
Cherng is cochair and cochief executive officer of Panda Restaurant Group, Inc., which operates the family of restaurants that includes Panda Inn, Panda Express, and Hibachi-San. Previously, she worked for McDonnell Douglas and Comtal-3M. Since joining the Panda Restaurant Group in 1982, Cherng has also served as its executive vice president and president. In addition to overseeing the company's operations and vision, Cherng leads Panda's community-involvement initiative, Panda Cares, which supports nonprofit organizations with a special focus on children's education and health.
Cherng serves on the boards of Children's Hospital Los Angeles, UCLA Anderson School of Management, Methodist Hospital of Southern California, and Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Los Angeles Branch. She received a BS in applied mathematics from Oregon State University, and an MS in computer science and a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri.
The Board of Trustees is the governing body of Caltech. The Board is led by Kent Kresa, chair, and vice chairs David L. Lee and Ronald K. Linde, and is currently composed of 40 trustees, 12 senior trustees, 24 life members, and one honorary life member.
