Updated Caltech Privacy Notice

Effective October 15, 2026, Caltech has updated its Privacy Notice to provide further clarity on how the Institute collects, uses, and shares information that is collected through its websites and operations. The information that Caltech collects or shares, either directly or through third-party providers, is done so in support of legitimate business purposes and the Institute's research and academic operations, as explained further in the Privacy Notice.

This update aligns with generally accepted privacy practices. The updated policy provides guidance on the use of and practice for the safe collection of cookies through the use of applications like Google Analytics, which provide information about visitors to sites, time on pages, pathways to Caltech websites, etc.  Caltech's Privacy Policy aligns with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applies to users of our websites or mobile applications who reside in the European Union (EU).

This updated policy also updates and incorporates the Institute's GDPR policy.

In rolling out the policy, IMSS will also implement a banner on the sites that they manage, including  www.caltech.edu,  with text articulating Caltech's use of cookies on websites.
