Ginsburg Center Construction Campus Impacts – February 2025

January 31, 2025

As excavation for the Ginsburg Center continues through mid-February, flaggers will manage traffic along California Boulevard, ensuring safe passage of approximately 100-120 trucks hauling dirt each day. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to be careful and adhere to all posted warnings and traffic signs. Occupants in buildings beside the excavation hole may experience low vibration.

For the installation of a tower crane at the Ginsburg Center construction site, California Boulevard will be closed twice, first on Saturday, March 1, and then from Friday, March 14, to Sunday, March 16. The closure will be between South Campus Drive and Arden Road. We will share more information and suggested traffic routes in February.

People in Downs-Lauritsen Laboratory should expect minor dust, noise, and vibration on Tuesday, February 4, as the contractor builds a temporary wall in the B1 Level on the building's west side to prepare for underground pedestrian tunnel work. We anticipate loud noise and vibration from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, during test drilling into the basement wall.

Most fencing around the Olive Walk will be removed after that area's sewer repair and walkway replacement is completed on Friday, January 31. Fences will remain around Throop Memorial Garden (the turtle ponds) and the walkways between Gates-Thomas Laboratory and the Hameetman Center. We tentatively plan to restart conduit installation around Gates-Thomas in February. It will take around 12 weeks to excavate and install vaults and extension of underground conduits, and the process will cause minor vibration and noise. The team will share a confirmed schedule shortly, likely next week.
