Caltech Library Accessibility Effort

In alignment with our new strategic plan, the Library is dedicated to fostering inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility across all our collections and services. Our commitment is reflected in an effort to create an inclusive environment for every member of the Caltech community, including people with disabilities. Since 2021, the Library's dedicated Accessibility Committee has actively pursued this goal by improving accessibility of both physical and digital spaces. This includes ongoing staff training, a Disability Pride resource display, and the continual enhancement of library furniture and spaces.

Recent improvements include renovations to the Archives Reading Room, which now features adjustable tables, chairs, and desk lights designed according to universal design principles. The Library also added Shushbooths, which provide an isolated space free of noise and distractions. Additionally, the Library launched a new website last year, with web accessibility at its core. The new website redesign incorporates features such as a "screenless" design, enhanced visual cues, clear language, and large clickable areas to ensure a more accessible online experience. The accessibility page on the website provides comprehensive information about library locations, including details on physical accessibility, noise levels, lighting, restrooms, and other relevant features.
