New Red Door Art Installation

September 18, 2020

NOTE: The deadline for submission has been extended to October 30.

As we work to create a more inclusive future for Caltech, join us in celebrating the racial, ethnic, sexual, and cultural diversity in our community through art. This fall, we will be opening a new installation of community art in the Red Door Cafe on Caltech's campus. All members of the Caltech community are welcome to submit art reflecting the theme of diversity, including, but by no means limited to:

  1. Art reflecting what diversity, or what this moment of racial reckoning, means to members of our community
  2. Art reflecting the cultural, racial, ethnic or LGBTQ+ identities of minority members of our community that they wish to celebrate
  3. Art reflecting the Black Lives Matter movement

All forms of visual media are welcome. Please submit a photo(s) of your art to DiverseCaltechArt@gmail.com by October 12. Include your name, contact info, and the dimensions of your piece(s).

You may also include a 2-3 sentence description of each piece. While contact information is required so we may communicate with the artists as we collect their pieces, artists may choose to remain anonymous in the final installation. Please limit your submission to four pieces.

Selected works will be displayed in the Red Door Cafe in early November. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no opening night gala, but we will create a virtual museum so all members of our community can experience the art. We will arrange for contactless collection of all selected pieces, in accordance with Caltech social distancing guidelines.

Questions can be sent to Emma Sosa (esosa@caltech.edu).
