Professional Development Series for Grad Students and Postdocs: Evidence-Based Teaching and AI Integration
The CTLO invites grad students and postdocs to a five-part workshop series exploring current education research on teaching and practical strategies for using AI in the classroom. Come to one session or enjoy the full series!
All sessions will be held at the CTLO Workshop Space (CSS bldg., 3rd floor, 414 S. Holliston) from 10am – 11:30am. Refreshments provided. Sessions will be led by CTLO Assoc. Director Melissa Dabiri and Program Manager Jedi Tsang.

Mon. 1/26: Key Learning Theories, Their Impact on Teaching, and How to Use the Strategies
Explore key learning theories—behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, humanism, and connectivism—and discover how to apply their strategies like direct instruction, formative assessment and feedback, metacognitive techniques, and classroom questioning to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Mon. 2/9: Boosting Learning & Memory: High-Impact Cognitive Strategies in the Classroom
Learn how to enhance student learning and memory by effectively implementing high-impact cognitive strategies such as retrieval practice, spaced practice, and the use of worked examples and modeling for mastery learning.
Mon. 2/23: Designing for Engagement & Inclusion: Creating a Climate for Mastery Learning
Design engaging and inclusive classrooms that foster mastery learning through collaborative learning, differentiated instruction and scaffolding, active learning strategies, and activating students' prior knowledge.
Mon. 3/9: Integrating AI Into Your Course: Practical Prompt Engineering for Educators
Are you thinking of integrating AI into your course? Explore practical, classroom-tested prompt strategies to provide context to a chatbot that can support core pedagogical goals. This session highlights examples of prompts educators have used to strengthen feedback, guide student practice, structure assignments, and enhance instructional clarity when incorporating AI into their teaching.
Mon. 3/16: Integrating AI Into Your Course: An Overview of AI-Assistive Tools for Teaching
Gain a broad view of how instructors across different institutions are using AI tools to enrich teaching and learning, including rubric creation and answering student questions.
