Caltech Connect training - Working effectively with students in distress
Have you been worried about a colleague or student who appears unwell or in distress, but aren't sure how to intervene? Do you feel uncomfortable engaging in a conversation about their wellbeing, or don't know how to refer to appropriate resources?
Caltech Connect training is a 2 hour interactive program offered by Student Counseling Services. This training enables staff to identify signs of distress, offers concrete strategies for intervention, and provides information about resources and referral options. While Caltech Connect has a particular focus on suicide prevention, the skills you will learn are applicable to a range of situations that you may encounter when working with your colleagues and students.
We recognize that sensitive conversations with colleagues/students can be difficult, and aim to help you feel better equipped to manage these situations. Counseling Services will offer Caltech Connect training to the community on a regular basis, and is open to hosting option or division-specific programs by request. Please consider joining us for our online training session on Tuesday, November 18th from 11:00 - 1:00. The signup link is below, and you will receive a Zoom link closer to the training date.
This training is open to all members of the Caltech community - faculty, staff, postdocs, and students.
