Re: Update on Caltech's Response to COVID-19

Earlier today, a Caltech graduate student was tested for COVID-19 by the Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD). The student, who has exhibited mild symptoms, is currently self-isolating in off-campus housing pending test results.

At this time, there are no confirmed cases on the Caltech campus, and no other community members are undergoing testing.

As soon as we learn the outcome of the testing, we will inform you of the results and of any campus impact. In collaboration with and under the guidance of PPHD, we are continuing to operate within the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health's established guidance for campus activities.

Caltech's first priority is the health and safety of its students, faculty, staff, and community. We will take all precautions recommended by PPHD, LADPH, and the Centers for Disease Control, to prevent or contain the disease from spreading at our institution.

This is an evolving situation and we are committed to keeping you informed as we receive new information. We encourage our students, parents, faculty, and staff to visit caltech.edu/coronavirus to remain updated on the situation.

If you develop flu-like symptoms, please contact your medical provider by telephone for instructions on seeking medical attention. Students should call Student Wellness Services at (626) 395-6393. Staff and faculty should contact their primary care medical provider.
